Training In Diagnostic Radiology To Fellowship Level
Applications are invited from Medical Practitioners with at least two years clinical experience (including the Intern year) for training posts in diagnostic radiology in a number of Irish Hospitals including Beaumont, Adelaide and Meath, Mater, St. James's and St. Vincent's in Dublin, University College Hospital, Galway and the Cork University Hospital and associated hospitals in Cork. Applicants are strongly advised to visit the training Departments of Hospitals and to meet the senior radiological staff.
The appointment will be for one year, renewable for candidates whose work and academic progress is satisfactory, and who are successful in the primary Fellowship Examination. The maximum tenure of training appointments in the Faculty training scheme is five years.
The following are the particulars of the training:
The Course is designed to prepare doctors to acquire the Final Fellowship of the Faculty of Radiologists of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. It consists of two parts:
Part 1 A course of one year leading to the Primary or First examination for the Fellowship.
followed by:-
Part 11 A course of a further two years proceeding to the Final Fellowship Examination.
Trainee Radiologists are remunerated at the approved Department of Health scale with credit for previous hospital service, e.g. if a doctor already in a Registrar grade is selected as trainee, he will retain his salary as a Registrar.
A Candidate may not avoid or postpone an examination without grave or sufficient reason which must be submitted to the Director of the Department of Radiology concerned and also the Fellowship Advisory Board. All candidates are expected to sit the F.F.R. R.C.S.I.
During his entire course of training, the trainee Radiologist is expected to carry out his clinical duties including oncall roster to the satisfaction of his Director of Department of Radiology.
